The Story of...
Camp Eyabsut, is a positive summer camp experience that benefits burn-injured youth. A place where children, ages 5 to 17, can come together to laugh, grow and encourage each other while building lifelong friendships!
Camp provides an opportunity for these campers to share their experiences with others and gives them a sense of being a part of a supportive family and community!
In an atmosphere focused on fun and recreation, the objective of Camp Eyabsut is to “enhance the self-esteem of every child and to enrich their physical, social and psychological growth.”
For the past 33 years, staffed by volunteers and supported by donations, Camp Eyabsut has provided a free, fun, sometimes challenging and often life-changing experience to hundreds of burn-injured children from throughout the Pacific Northwest (WA, OR, ID, MT, AK)
In 1997, we sought a way to identify our camp, while keeping in touch with our northwest roots and our connections to the local land and people. In a solemn and moving fireside “blessing ceremony,” the name “eyabsut” was given to us by elders from the Skagit Tribe.
In their language it means, “To Rise Above Anything!” This exemplifies the message and mission of our camp and speaks to what all of our campers strive to do day in and day out! The symbol of the bear was also given as a sign of the strength and courage of all of our campers.
Every year since 1997, we have seen the “spirit of Eyabsut” alive in our camp, our programs, our volunteers and most of all our campers!
Indeed, the “Eyabsut” spirit is more visible and stronger than ever as our Eyabsut Family works to keep our camp alive for many years to come!
